Wells Fargo Awards $160,000 to Support Reading Partners in Robla School District

New grant expands collaboration and impact of Reading Partners and the Sacramento READS! Campaign

Sacramento, CA – Wells Fargo, Reading Partners, and Sacramento READS! today announce the launch of a new partnership to improve reading for children in low-income communities across Robla School District.

The flagship investment of $160,000 will support an initiative to expand Reading Partners’ reach in Sacramento. With the support of Wells Fargo and the Sacramento READS! Campaign, this year Reading Partners will provide one-on-one literacy tutoring for 575 students at 13 elementary schools across Sacramento. This new partnership with Wells Fargo and Sacramento READS! will focus specifically on two Elementary schools in the Robla School District: Bell Avenue Elementary and Glenwood Elementary.

“The staff of the Robla School District works very hard to provide the necessary support to all of our students. Support such as this from a true Community Bank like Wells Fargo helps us to more effectively meet the needs of our struggling students,” said Superintendent Ruben Reyes.

At each participating elementary school, Reading Partners will engage a corps of 40 to 100 community volunteers to work one-on-one with students in kindergarten through fifth grade who have fallen behind in reading. Tutors are supervised and supported by trained Reading Partners staff at the school and use a structured curricular program proven to increase reading skills. Sacramento READS! is dedicated to helping support volunteer recruitment and community engagement in its citywide campaign to address the literacy crisis.

“Literacy by third grade is a critical benchmark in a child’s education,” said Mayor Kevin Johnson. It’s when children transition from learning to read to reading to learn. “This commitment from Wells Fargo paired with the effective strategies of Reading Partners is the type of community partnership that will move the needle on literacy here in Sacramento.”Collaborative public-private partnerships are key to helping students succeed,” said Michael Lombardo, CEO for Reading Partners. “Wells Fargo’s generosity will make a huge difference for kids in the Robla School District and the support of Mayor Johnson and the Sacramento READS! Campaign is an essential element to our work.”

Wells Fargo is committed to supporting the Robla School District and the work of Reading Partners and the Sacramento READS! campaign. Wells Fargo looks forward to expanding this partnership in the future to ensure all students are reading to succeed.
