Booked for Summer

This summer we’ll adventure back in time, visit far-away locations, and make new scientific discoveries. Join the movement to make reading part of the summer fun and combat the summer slide for kindergarten through fifth grade students in North Texas.
Why is it important to read over the summer?
Most students lose at least a month of reading skills over the summer. In fact, 9 out of 10 teachers spend at least the first three weeks of school reteaching content students learned in the previous school year. In order to combat summer learning loss, we are working to build a movement to rally around our young readers this summer.
How can you join the fun?
We’re here to help make the most of your time reading together this summer. Here are four simple ways you can participate:
- Check out our summer reading book list for hand-picked titles. Pick a book to read, but don’t stop there! We encourage you to read all the titles on our list.
- Participate in your library’s summer reading challenge. Find the details for your city.
- Tune in to NBC 5 and Telemundo 39 to see which book your favorite newsperson features on TV each week.
- Learn how to make a lasting impact with Reading Partners beyond the summer.
