Executive DirectorRachel brings twenty years of non-profit and public policy experience to her role as the Sacramento executive director. Most recently, she served with the City of Sacramento as the district director for Mayor Pro Tem Angelique Ashby, managing the day-to-day operations of the office and serving as a liaison between constituents and city staff to solve complex challenges. As the director of family and community engagement for the California Charter Schools Association, Rachel identified and mentored parent leaders to become advocates for their schools, helping them collaborate with policy makers through positive and productive dialogue. Her passion for Reading Partners grew out of an opportunity to tutor students at one of the reading centers when she served as the communications officer for Mayor Kevin Johnson's literacy initiative Sacramento READS!Read
which was launched to educate the community about the need for children to read on grade level by the end of third grade. Previous to these roles, Rachel worked on policy advocacy to increase access to affordable child care with Child Action, Inc. and was the training coordinator at the Sacramento Children’s Home and the Children’s Receiving Home. Her career has been dedicated to the well-being of children and families, rooted in the belief that every child deserves a bright future.

Program ManagerMike was born, raised, and educated near the shores of Lake Michigan where he began a life-long love of experiential education and working with children, beginning with what became a long history with the YMCA. He has spent the better part of his life dedicated to education-centered nonprofit work and comes to Reading Partners Sacramento after spending time as a site coordinator with Reading Partners Silicon Valley. As a program manager, he oversees five school sites and is passionate about childhood education. His philosophy is that in order to increase knowledge, develop skills, and clarify values, we must purposefully engage the students with direct experience and focused reflection, because it will all develop the students' capacity to contribute to their communities. When he's not in one of the reading centers, Mike can be found on his bike or between the pages of the pretentiously long book he's only pretending to read. Contact Mike at firstname.lastname@example.org or 415.305.5201.
