Combat the summer slide
Many students experience summer learning loss over summer, but research shows that students can maintain or improve reading skills when they are out of school for the summer. Access to books increases reading opportunities and enjoyment and can help students combat the summer slide. Students who read at least five books during summer can maintain important literacy skills.

Read, read, read!
One of the best ways to encourage summer reading is to find reading level-appropriate books that kids are interested in reading. Different kids have different interests, so help your young reader find the right book. You can start by exploring the titles on our book list or take a trip to the library.
Next step: Read! Take time to read with your child, let them catch you in the act of reading, and travel with a book. This will make reading part of the summer routine.
Visit your local library
