A passion to read and a passion to learn: Felicia Webb | My Bookmark

Felicia Webb (she/her) is the executive director of Reading Partners Silicon Valley. When she thinks back to her first reading memory, a specific story comes to mind. She remembers reading a book about a group of animals who think that a distant field is on fire. As they get closer to the field, they realize that it wasn’t aflame; it was actually covered in red flowers.

“I loved that book so much,” Felicia says. “The words were repetitive, but that’s how I learned to read. It was magical to me.”

mrs. piggle-wiggle series; a passion to readAs her reading journey progressed, Felicia dove into other stories, such as the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle series. “The stories were funny and oddly relatable. I enjoyed reading about the woman who lived in an upside-down house and the many ways she tricked naughty children into behaving. There were some life lessons in these funny stories.”

Now that she’s an adult, Felicia looks back on how her passion for reading has changed over the years. When she first started picking up books, she tended to gravitate toward the same kind of stories. Now, she appreciates a wide range of titles, stories, and genres.

One book she wished she had when she was a kid is the Harry Potter series. As a lover of magical stories, Felicia just knows she would have enjoyed reading about the adventures of Harry, Hermione, and Ron.

Ultimately, Felicia believes in the power of books to do good and make an impact

“Books help to expand the mind,” she says. “They foster imagination and creativity. When children have a passion to read, they have a passion to learn.”
