Honoring my family of teachers

Back to National Volunteer Week blog

By: Chargris Hightower, volunteer reading partner in Dallas, TX

When my father (who was a principal) passed away in December 2013, I wanted to do something to honor him. During the Dr. Seuss reading day, a few months later, a Reading Partners volunteer coordinator asked if I would volunteer to be a reading tutor. I thought volunteering would not only honor my father, but honor my mother, aunt and grandmother who were teachers. I have enjoyed getting a small idea of what my family did as teachers.
