Jasmine connects in her community

Jasmine Farley first heard about Reading Partners at Metropolitan Baptist Church, where she regularly attends service. She decided to sign up on the spot, and once she met her student, she was so happy that she did.

“We connected over the fact that I was raised in the same community as my student,” says Jasmine

Jasmine shows up every week to work one-on-one with her student. She says she learns patience and the power of positive feedback in every session. In her second year volunteering at Greenwood Leadership Academy, Jasmine takes every opportunity to get involved on makeup days, in addition to her regular sessions, so she can help provide additional support for other students.

We need to help our young people every way we can because they are the future. Not just through tutoring , but also through kind words, encouragement, a smile or a hug. These moments are critical for the development of young minds.

We’d love to hear what inspires you to volunteer with Reading Partners! Email us at volunteerTUL@readingpartners.org to share your inspirational story.
