Our first volunteer reading partner

Steven Nguyen, a Seattle native, was Reading Partners Seattle’s very first tutor at Sanislo Elementary. After serving with Helping Link, a nonprofit helping Vietnamese-Americans youth and adults, Steven sought to refocus his efforts to work specifically with children and align more closely with his background in Information and library science (with a focus on youth).  Currently working for the downtown Seattle Public Library, Steven hopes to become a children’s librarian in the future to help children find meaningful and relevant texts.

Steven shares a very personal connection to Reading Partners’ mission. Growing up, Steven struggled with reading, until he found the texts that spoke to him. Since Lesson Zero, Steven has enjoyed his time getting to know his student, Matthew.  While Matthew was shy at first,  he quickly opened up to Steven. Steven has brought an incredible amount of passion, dedication, and consistency to his role as a reading partner and we know that he will become a phenomenal children’s librarian in the future!
