Reading Partners Featured as High-Quality Nonprofit on Focusing Philanthropy

Oakland, CA October 4, 2012 — Today Focusing Philanthropy announced that they will feature Reading Partners as a “best-in-class” education nonprofit to watch. This honor will be coupled with a matching grant to support a new school launch in the 2012-2013 school year that is just beginning.

Focusing Philanthropy identifies, evaluates and presents high-impact nonprofits as candidates for personal philanthropy. The organization’s prestigious reputation will help support Reading Partners during a period of exponential growth.

“We are honored to be featured by Focusing Philanthropy,” said Reading Partners CEO, Michael Lombardo. “Our programs are driven by data and evidence-based decision-making so we are encouraged to see philanthropy moving in this direction. We applaud the efforts of organizations like Focusing Philanthropy to ensure that in these tight economic times every dollar goes where it counts.”

This year Reading Partners will provide one-on-one volunteer-led literacy tutoring in 101 schools across 6 states and 35 school districts. Last year Reading Partners volunteers gave over 100,000 hours to tutor low-income elementary school students and they had an 89% success rate in improving students’ reading skills.

“Reading Partners is exactly the type of organization that Focusing Philanthropy is set up to identify, evaluate and support: it has a proven record of achieving significant results in addressing a pressing problem, and it has demonstrated a capacity for significant growth,” said Focusing Philanthropy Founder, Larry Gilson. “We support — and encourage others to support — organizations such as this where incremental donations have a high likelihood of achieving substantial, leveraged impact.”
