Baltimore
Reading Partners joined the Baltimore educational landscape in the 2011-12 school year with a mission to empower children to become lifelong readers. Since opening our first reading center in Friendship Academy at Cherry Hill, we continue to partner with schools, families, organizations, and community members to support students with the one-on-one reading support they deserve.
We know that the ability to read transforms lives and empowers children and communities to thrive. When students can read on grade level by fourth grade, new opportunities for success in school, in their communities, and in future paths open up. Yet, not all students have access to the quality literacy education they deserve to master foundational reading skills. By mobilizing community members and organizations throughout Baltimore, Reading Partners provides students with the individualized, evidence-based instruction needed to progress on their path to grade-level reading.
Facing a school year of uncertainty due to COVID-19 in 2020-21, Reading Partners Baltimore collaborated with teachers and school leaders to meet students’ learning needs, including creating an innovative online tutoring program that can be used to support students when in-person tutoring is not an option. Reading Partners Baltimore will also continue to invest in family engagement programs and race equity, diversity, and inclusion training for volunteers, staff, and AmeriCorps members to ensure that we are thoroughly supporting students and communities as we emerge from the pandemic and well into the future.
Join Reading Partners Baltimore as we create a more equitable future, one where every child in Baltimore has the support they deserve to become strong readers and lifelong learners.
