Leading Sacramento nonprofits form a new kind of collective

Working in the nonprofit sector can sometimes feel like living in the Hunger Games, with organizations often vying for limited resources and fighting to thrive.

In Sacramento, a few nonprofits have decided to come together to create a new, more collaborative way of doing business. Staci Anderson, president and CEO of PRO Youth and Families, launched the development of this yet-to-be-named youth and families collective to tackle some of the local nonprofit sector’s most challenging issues. She has identified five drivers of change to unite and guide the network: people power, youth leadership development, enhanced collaboration and policy innovation, leveraged partnerships and resources, and the ability to change the narrative. These drivers will create a structure that supports nonprofits with a variety of needs including shared workspace, back office operations, fund development, communications, marketing, IT, evaluation, and volunteer services.

We call ourselves Reading Partners for a reason. We know that building relationships with the community makes us stronger. “Together we are better” is a core value. That is why we are among the first organizations to embrace the vision for the nonprofit collective. On July 1, we will officially move our administrative offices to the PRO Youth and Families headquarters where we will save on office rent and, more importantly, work in a space fully dedicated to youth and families, opening ourselves up to opportunities for thought partnership and collaboration.
