Reading Partners’ volunteers, staff, and community stakeholders, totaling 150 people, will be in attendance at the Commit to the Next Chapter breakfast. Speakers at the event include We Are Charleston authors Herb Frazier, Bernard Powers, Ph.D., Marjory Wentworth, Malcolm Graham of the Cynthia Graham Hurd Foundation, and Kecia Greenho, Executive Director of Reading Partners South Carolina.

Reading Partners South Carolina is hosting a breakfast event, thanks to a Community Engagement grant from Trident United Way. The event is targeted specifically toward returning volunteer tutors, to help kick-off the new school year and generate excitement about volunteer recruitment and helping even more students to reading success.

It will be held Aug. 30 from 8 – 10 a.m. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. Speakers will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude at 9:30 a.m. A book signing will be held from 9:30-10 a.m.

The breakfast will be held at the Harbour Club, 35 Prioleau Street. Parking will be available in the Prioleau Parking Garage off of East Bay Street. The event will be held in the second floor ballroom.

The event will help set the tone for the upcoming school year, as well as energize volunteers to once again help their students to reading success. In the upcoming school year, Reading Partners South Carolina plans to serve 725 struggling readers at 16 elementary schools in Charleston, Berkeley, and Florence counties, with the help of 800+ community volunteers.

Reading Partners is a literacy nonprofit that provides volunteer-led, one-on-one literacy tutoring to more than 700 elementary school students in 16 Title I schools in South Carolina. Reading Partners delivers a highly effective, research-validated program that has helped hundreds of children master the fundamental reading skills they need to succeed in school and beyond.
