Join us for our tutor engagement series!

While the school year is wrapping up, there are many ways to stay involved this spring and summer! We’ve put together five informational and inspiring trainings that are optional for new and returning tutors. Meet members of our AmeriCorps, community engagement, program, and partnerships teams while learning valuable skills you can take with you into your tutoring sessions this fall. Friday, June 5: 8-9 AM PT / 11-12 PM ET

Join our AmeriCorps team to learn more about AmeriCorps at Reading Partners! We mobilize AmeriCorps members across our regions to recruit and coach volunteers, support students during and outside of tutoring sessions, work on capacity-building projects, and so much more. This information session will give you an insight into the day-to-day lives of our AmeriCorps members, as well as highlight why service with Reading Partners is the right fit for you!

End of Year Virtual Tutor Celebration

Friday, June 12 from 8 – 9 AM PT / 11 – 12 PM ET

Join our community engagement team for a fun session celebrating the end of the school year. We’ll highlight from our impact this year, hear a tutor spotlight from a long-time New York tutor, have an opportunity to share favorite tutoring memories, and celebrate accomplishments across our regions. We’ll be celebrating those who tutored with us this past year, but we welcome incoming volunteers to join and participate in the festivities!

Supporting Reluctant Readers: Building Student Confidence

Friday, July 17 from 8 – 9 AM PT / 11 – 12 PM ET

Join our program team, for a deep dive into how to support reluctant readers by building their confidence. We will explore different examples that can build trust and connections with students during tutoring sessions. By the end of this training, you will have a variety of ways to engage your students positively so they gain the confidence needed not only to be good readers but also to love reading.

Making the Most of the Tutor Read Aloud

Friday, August 7 from 8 – 9 AM PT / 11 – 12 PM ET

Join our program team for an interactive training where tutors will learn how to turn a simple read aloud into a powerful literacy experience. We’ll explore strategies for reading with expression, asking meaningful questions, building vocabulary, and engaging students before, during, and after reading. Whether you are a new or experienced tutor, this training will provide practical tools to help students build comprehension and a love for reading.

Structuring an Effective Tutoring Session

Friday, September 18 from 8 – 9 AM PT / 11 – 12 PM ET

Join our program team for a training on how to structure an effective Reading Partners tutoring session. This session will cover lesson pacing, practical strategies for managing time efficiently, and best practices for creating a smooth, engaging lesson flow with your student. You’ll also learn how to set clear session goals and handle common pacing challenges with confidence. By the end of the training, you’ll walk away with actionable strategies you can immediately apply to deliver well structured and impactful tutoring sessions.
