Giving Day 2015: One day to support the causes you care most about

May 4, 2015

by Giving Day 2015: One day to support the causes you care most about

Every day, thousands of community members show up at local elementary schools to give their time one-on-one with students who need a little extra support in reading. These individuals are more than just volunteer tutors, they are reading champions and allies for their students. They show up at the same time and place each week, providing supplementary, individualized support to their students. And the payoff is worth it.

Most Reading Partners students accelerate their rate of learning and end the year closer to their grade-level in reading. In fact, students nationwide, on average, more than double their rate of learning reading skills for every month enrolled in Reading Partners.

With such great results, it’s not hard to see why volunteers keep coming back. But, of course, the kids are the real pull. Many tutors say coming to Reading Partners is the highlight of their week and most have a darling story or anecdote to follow.

Students love their reading partners too. The majority of students are motivated to do well and make the most out of their 45 minute tutoring sessions.

Some of the Reading Partners Charleston volunteers explained why they love Reading Partners…

Reading Partners is about ensuring that all kids have the skills and confidence they need to succeed in reading, in school, and in life.

If you are a literacy lover, then join the millions of donors stepping up and giving to the causes they care most about during Giving Day 2015 on May 5. This online, crowd-funding event is the largest of it’s kind, inviting communities nationwide to rally support for the vital work of local nonprofits, like Reading Partners.

This year, Reading Partners will be raising funds for early reading success in three regions during Giving Day. These crucial funds will allow Reading Partners’ programs to expand to reach hundreds more students in the 2015-16 school year.
