Day of Caring 2017

Reading Partners South Carolina was lucky to partner with Blackbaud during Trident United Way’s Day of Caring. This annual volunteer day pairs a local nonprofit with an area business to unite the community in a service project. Thirty-three Blackbaud employees became tutors for a day at Hursey, Mary Ford, Mitchell, Memminger, and Cainhoy elementary schools.

During each session, our new Blackbaud tutors worked one-on-one with students to complete a special lesson from author Kate Jerome’s book, South Carolina: What’s so great about this state? Volunteers and readers bonded over shared experiences and activities, while learning more about our state.

Not only was this a great volunteer opportunity for community members who cannot typically commit during the work day, but it also provided students exposure to career paths and industries right in their own city. Christine Messick, our community engagement manager said, “This is a great way to introduce people to who we are and what we are doing. It’s such a fun opportunity for the kids to do something special.”

We appreciate Blackbaud’s enthusiasm and know our students had an awesome day as well!
