This event, which includes an auction, celebrates Reading Partners and our committed community supporters, all fueled by the same goal: empowering communities and creating lifelong readers. ABOUT THE HOST | Lorenzo Hall

lorenzo hall, host of read to succeed 2024Lorenzo Hall is an award-winning journalist and co-anchors WUSA9 News weeknights at 5pm, 6pm and 11pm.

A Washington, D.C. native, Lorenzo returned home and joined WUSA9 in the summer of 2018. Since then, he’s guided viewers through breaking news and many major events, from the storm of scandals involving Virginia’s political leaders to the many protests for racial equality in our nation’s capital and the COVID19 pandemic.

Lorenzo has been recognized for his reporting and writing with eight Emmy Awards, two regional Edward R. Murrow awards, the National Association of Black Journalists’ Salute to Excellence and Best TV News Anchor by the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association.

ABOUT THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER | Michael Collins

michael collins, host of read to succeed 2024

Michael Collins served as Chief of Staff and Floor Assistant to Congressman John Lewis for almost 20 years, directing the work of the Congressional staff in Washington and in Atlanta, managing long-term legislative plans and acting as the primary liaison for constituents and various interest groups. Following the Congressman’s passing in 2020, Michael was tapped to serve as Special Assistant to President Biden and Director of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs for Vice President Harris.

He now serves as Director of Policy and Government Affairs for Starbucks Corporation. Michael earned a B.A. at Morehouse College, an M.B.A. at Emory University and an M.S.W. at Boston College. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and has served on the boards for the Faith and Politics Institute and the Sadie Funny Scholarship Foundation.
