You will select a time and date for your child’s weekly tutoring sessions, then we pair your child with a background-checked volunteer tutor who’s passionate about helping young readers thrive. Your child and their tutor will meet on our secure online learning platform once a week and follow our data-driven curriculum for the duration of a summer, semester, or school year term.

Reading Partners trains and supervises community volunteers to work one-on-one with your child once a week for 45 minutes.

  • Before enrolling your child in Reading Partners, you will sign a parent permission form so that you are fully aware of your student’s participation in the program.
  • Reading Partners staff and AmeriCorps members routinely observe sessions, coach tutors, and provide regular feedback.
  • All tutors go through background checks in alignment with district policies before beginning to volunteer with Reading Partners.

We assess your child’s reading skills, place them in our curriculum at their individual reading level, monitor sessions for literacy gains, and maximize individualized learning opportunities while enrolled in the program. Learn more about our program’s efficacy here.

  • Each lesson begins with the tutor reading aloud to the student from a book the child has selected. The tutor asks questions and discusses the book’s content and vocabulary with the student.
  • The tutor then introduces a new skill or concept and helps the student complete an introductory task.
  • The lesson ends with the tutor supporting the student while they read and encouraging the student to apply the new skill and/or concept.
