Today, only 40 percent of third graders in Mecklenburg County are reading on grade level. By partnering with parents, teachers, public schools, and community leaders in Charlotte, Reading Partners is poised to address Charlotte’s significant achievement gap.
Reading Partners has been part of the national educational landscape since 1999, when we first began placing community volunteers in low-income schools to help kids master foundational reading skills.
By harnessing the power of community volunteers, we make a meaningful and measurable difference in students’ reading proficiency and their lives.
Our one-on-one tutoring model is backed by evidence-based research proven to raise the reading proficiency of students who are at least six months below grade level in reading. Our volunteer reading partners empower students to succeed in reading and in life by providing individualized, personal attention to each student in our program.
