Support Reading Partners during Give Local America on May 3

April 28, 2016

by Support Reading Partners during Give Local America on May 3

On May 3, a wave of generosity will sweep across our nation during Give Local America day. This 24-hour giving event demonstrates the power of local communities to come together and make a difference. Thousands of local nonprofits will participate in the event, with small businesses and individuals joining to celebrate and support the work being done to keep communities thriving.

Why support literacy on giving day?

Strong literacy skills are crucial for students to be able to understand material across all subjects. When students cannot read at grade level by fourth grade they are four times less likely to graduate on time and face higher risks of incarceration, teen pregnancy, and adult poverty. The unfortunate reality we are faced with today in the US is meeting the needs of more than 70 percent of fourth graders who aren’t reading at grade level — a number that jumps to 80 percent for African American students.

At Reading Partners, we know that kids can become strong, confident readers and learners when given the right support. By making a donation (big or small) to Reading Partners on May 3, you will provide necessary early intervention resources that will help put students back on track for success.

Join the giving movement!

To make a difference for young readers on Give Local America day, select a participating Reading Partners community and schedule a donation for May 3.
